Trillium was first published in 2006 under the guidance of Dr. Lisa Hodgens.  In 2009, she was succeeded by Dr. Sian Griffiths who moved the journal on-line with the help of her exceptional student editorial staff: Catie Buchanan, Emily Miller, Alan Ritter, and Brian Simmons.

We’d like to extend special thank yous to Dr. Bob Cummings, whose image “Dante’s Dilemma” is serving as our cover art, to the Piedmont Art department for their tireless support, and to Drs. Stephanie Almagno, Hugh Davis, and Lisa Hodgens for helping to judge the Trillium Prizes for 2009. 

EDITORIAL STAFF: 

Alan Ritter is a senior English major at Piedmont College. His favorite piece of literature is Willa Cather’s My Ántonia. He writes music and prose, and occasionally poetry. He loves Mozart’s Mass in C Minor and kitties.

Brian Simmons is a senior English major at Piedmont College.  His favorite literary piece is Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis.  He believes the writings “should be like a car traveling 100 mph into a brick wall.”  He currently resides in Clarkesville with his wife, Rebekah, and their two children, Presley and Kane.

Catie Buchanan is a junior at Piedmont College on the Demorest Campus. She is dual majoring in English and Religion/Philosophy. Her favorite piece of literature is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Emily Miller is a freshman business major at Piedmont College Demorest. Her favorite book is The Giving Tree.

Dr. Siân Griffiths earned her PhD at the University of Georgia in 2006 where she earned the West Award, recognizing that year’s outstanding English graduate student.  She now serves as assistant professor of English at both campuses of Piedmont College.  Her poems, essays, and stories are published or forthcoming in Quarterly West, Ninth Letter, Cave Wall, River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative, Clackamas Literary Review, Oregon Literary Review, The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review, Permafrost, Versal, Court Green, The Georgia Review, and other publications.  Versal nominated her story “What Is Solid” for a Pushcart Prize.  She is currently seeking an agent for her debut novel, Borrowed Horses, which retells the story of Jane Eyre set in contemporary Moscow, Idaho.  Her other favorite works include T.S. Eliot’s “The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock,” Wallace Stevens’s “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,” Leonard Cohen’s “The Stranger Song,” Anthony Burgess’s A Clockwork Orange, and Sylvia Plath’s Ariel.
